Shafts, Sleeves & Flanges — Holes that Protect Fit and Assembly
Rotating and locating parts forgive little: bore size and alignment show up at assembly. Stabilize the drill (support, peck/coolant as needed), then ream fit-critical bores. Call out shoulder holes, cross holes, and key-related features on the RFQ so geometry and reach are quoted correctly—not guessed from a generic drill page.

FIT VS CLEARANCE
Which holes must be reamed
- Fit-critical — bearing seats, press fits, pin locations: plan drill + ream.
- Clearance — bolt holes with generous bands: drill-only is often enough if position is fixture-ok.
- Mark critical vs clearance on the RFQ so the quote does not over-tool every opening.

Blind holes need an explicit chip and geometry plan—always flag depth and bottom form on the RFQ.
One reamer for all flange holes?
Different Ø and tolerance usually means different tools. Send the hole chart.
Need a custom step drill?
Common on shoulder features—send a section view with diameters and lengths.
Volume too low for PCD?
Start with the carbide path; move to PCD when life or finish payback is clear.
