Custom PCD Tooling for High-Accuracy Holemaking

Engineering-led PCD tooling focused on precision holemaking. Start with custom PCD reamers for aluminum bores, then request an application review.

Custom PCD Tooling for High-Accuracy Holemaking

XRZ develops custom PCD tooling (polycrystalline diamond cutting tools) with precision holemaking as the primary focus. For most aluminum and non-ferrous programs, our first recommendation is a custom PCD reamer engineered around your bore tolerance, surface finish and cycle-time targets.

Why Buyers Look for PCD Tooling

PCD is chosen where carbide wears too quickly: aluminum alloys, high-silicon aluminum, copper and brass, and abrasive non-ferrous or composite materials. The value is not the tool price — it is stable hole size, consistent surface finish, fewer tool changes and predictable cost per part over long production runs.

PCD tools are not catalog commodities. Edge preparation, diamond grade, guide-pad layout, coolant delivery and body geometry all have to match the component. That is why our process is engineering-led: every quote starts with the drawing and the machining condition, not with a stock list.

Core Recommendation: Custom PCD Reamers

Precision holemaking is where PCD delivers the clearest return, and the PCD reamer is our core product. Typical applications include cylinder bores, transmission and valve-body bores, EV motor-housing bearing seats, and other high-accuracy aluminum bores where IT6–IT7 class size control and mirror-grade finish are required.

Supporting PCD Capability

Beyond reamers, we build supporting PCD and carbide tooling so a project can be completed with one engineering partner. These are project support items rather than the lead product.

Materials and Industry Priority

Our priority applications are automotive and EV component machining in aluminum: cylinder heads and blocks, transmission and valve-body housings, EV motor housings, steering and brake components. Secondary areas include compressor components, copper and brass parts, general engineering and composite machining. For steel and stainless holemaking we recommend solid carbide drills instead of PCD.

Who We Work With

  • Distributors and tooling resellers — repeatable custom PCD supply with engineering support: distributor program.
  • OEM and ODM partners — tools built to your specification and branding: OEM / ODM.
  • End users and manufacturing plants — process improvement on a specific bore or line: engineering RFQ.

Engineering Process

  1. Drawing and condition review — part print, material, tolerance, finish, machine and coolant.
  2. Tool concept and proposal — geometry, diamond grade, guide pads, coolant strategy and quotation.
  3. Manufacture and inspection — dimensional and edge inspection with a report before shipment.
  4. Sample trial and adjustment — validate size, finish and tool life on your machine.
  5. Repeat orders and regrind — documented specification for reorders plus regrind and re-tipping service.

What to Send With Your RFQ

  • Component drawing or 3D model with the bore or feature specified
  • Material and condition (e.g. ADC12, A356, high-silicon aluminum)
  • Diameter, depth, tolerance and required surface finish
  • Machine, spindle interface, coolant type and pressure
  • Annual volume and target tool life or cycle time

FAQ

Which PCD tool should I start with?
Start with a custom PCD reamer if you have a high-accuracy bore. It is where PCD gives the fastest, most measurable gain in size stability and finish.

Do you sell standard PCD tooling from stock?
No. Every tool is designed around your drawing and machining condition, which is why we ask for an engineering RFQ rather than a part number.

Can PCD be used on steel or stainless?
No. PCD is for aluminum and non-ferrous materials. For ferrous holemaking use solid carbide drills.

Do you also supply milling and forming tools?
Yes, as project support alongside the holemaking tools — see the capability table above.

How fast is a quotation?
Most drawing reviews are answered within one to two working days after we receive complete information. Send your drawing.
