Short answer. NEV / EV pump and oil-circuit bearing or bushing bores in aluminum usually follow a create-then-finish path: carbide drilling (or a qualified combination plan) to open the hole, then PCD reaming when volume and abrasive wear justify the edge. Edge damage on PCD is a scrap and process signal—not something to “push through.” Final data must be validated on the real print, machine and acceptance gauges.
Hole jobs on NEV pumps XRZ can review
- Bearing seats and bushing bores in aluminum pump bodies
- Stepped pilots and seal-related diameters tied to the same stack
- Related oil-circuit precision holes where roundness and finish matter on gauge
We do not invent OEM model names. Cast-iron or steel pump sections fork to carbide-first paths—see also engine & transmission holes when the part is ferrous powertrain.
Process window (drill → measure → PCD ream)
Leave a controlled reaming allowance; measure the pre-hole before finish. Watch interrupted cuts, thin walls and coolant delivery into blind or semi-blind seats. Guidance and runout dominate size scatter as much as the PCD blank. For housing-scale stacks, use aluminum EV housings; for material choice at volume, use PCD vs carbide reamer.
When the cutting edge is already damaged
Chipped teeth, broken PCD tips or uneven wear often show up as oversize scatter, chatter marks or sudden finish loss. Pause release production with that tool. Send XRZ: drawing with critical diameters, material/Si% if known, tolerance and finish callouts, machine and holder, coolant method, current tool photo, and recent gauge results. Do not claim life multipliers—replace or recondition only after root-cause review.

Frequently asked questions
Can PCD reamers finish NEV pump bearing holes in aluminum?
Often yes when the bore is aluminum, volume justifies PCD, and the pre-hole, holder and coolant are controlled. Validate on the actual pump print and machine.
What if the PCD edge is already chipped or damaged?
Stop using the tool for release parts. Send wear photos, material grade, tolerance, machine/holder and coolant with the drawing so XRZ can diagnose geometry or process causes.
How is this different from EV motor housing holes?
Pump bearing seats are usually smaller, often stepped or bushing-related, with their own stack-up. Housing hole/face stacks are covered on the Aluminum EV Housings page.
PCD or carbide for a low-volume pump trial?
Low or changing volume often stays on carbide until the process window is stable. Use the PCD vs carbide comparison for the volume and abrasion fork.
