Spiral Flute Taps
Compare spiral flute taps for blind-hole threading. Define full thread depth, drilled depth, material and chip evacuation for selection.
Spiral flute cutting taps are commonly used for blind holes and materials that produce coiled chips. Selection starts with the required thread depth and the space available to remove chips toward the hole entrance.

What to confirm before selection
Depth
Give full thread depth separately from drilled depth and bottom clearance.
Chip evacuation
Review chip shape, flute geometry and lubrication together.
Reach
Specify projection, holder clearance and any interrupted or intersecting features.
Choose the right construction and process
A spiral flute shape alone does not establish the correct helix, chamfer length, tool material or coating for every blind hole.
Send the workpiece grade and condition, thread tolerance and pre-hole condition. Confirm the proposed flute and chamfer geometry against the actual chip-removal route.
Send your thread and application details
Include the complete thread designation, pitch or TPI, tolerance class, material grade and hardness, hole type, full thread depth, drilled depth, quantity and drawing. Add the machine, holder and lubrication conditions.
For metric, UNC/UNF, NPT, G/BSP or STI enquiries, give the complete standard and callout. DIN dimensional references, through-coolant, coating and special reach are specification fields to confirm for the proposed tool.
