Incomplete RFQs stall PCD reamer quotations for a boring reason: the factory cannot tell whether the bore needs a finishing edge, a guided body, or a different process route until the missing fields arrive.

This page is a field checklist for a custom PCD reamer engineering RFQ—what each input means for geometry and Cost per Good Part, what breaks when it is blank, and what to upload next. It is not a general selection guide and not a substitute for the RFQ form itself.

Five RFQ field-group cards: drawing GD&T, material plus silicon percent, pre-hole allowance, machine holder runout and coolant, volume acceptance and regrind — no lead-time or MOQ.

Drawing, GD&T, and the finished bore job

Send the controlled drawing (or model) with the bore called out—not only a nominal diameter in an email.

Diameter tolerance, roundness/cylindricity, surface finish, datums, steps, chamfers, blind vs through, and interruptions decide edge count, guidance, coolant exits, and whether a straight reamer, multi-step, or combination concept is even in scope. Intake fields match the public Custom Cutting Tool RFQ and PCD reamer product page.

If missing: Quotes stay “concept TBD,” or the supplier guesses a generic finish reamer that ignores steps and interruptions.

Minimum pack: PDF/DWG/STEP + revision + which bores are in this RFQ.

Material grade—and Si% when the part is aluminum

Name the alloy/condition. For cast or high-silicon aluminum, state silicon content when you know it.

PCD finishing is evaluated for qualified non-ferrous and abrasive routes; ferrous work usually points elsewhere. Silicon and abrasive constituents change wear and edge-prep discussion—they do not license a fixed life number.

If missing: The quote cannot choose PCD vs carbide finishing honestly, and Cost per Good Part stays a slogan.

Cross-check material fit in PCD reamer vs carbide reamer—this checklist only asks for the fields that unlock that decision.

Pre-hole method, diameter band, and reaming allowance

Document how the hole is created, the incoming diameter range, and the intended finishing stock.

Reaming finishes a controlled incoming hole. Too little stock risks rubbing; too much overloads the edge and disturbs chip flow. There is no universal allowance to paste into every RFQ.

If missing: The factory cannot judge guidance or flute, or whether scrap risk sits in create vs finish—your Cost per Good Part model has no baseline.

Machine, holder, measured runout, stickout, coolant

List machine/spindle interface, holder type, overhang, measured runout under the production setup, coolant route (internal/external/MQL), and filtration practice if known.

Runout and stickout load edges unequally; coolant must reach the cutting zone and move chips. Catalog geometry is not proof of installed accuracy.

If missing: Quotes assume ideal setup; trials then fail for fixture/holder reasons blamed on the reamer.

Side-by-side comparison of a complete RFQ pack with all green checks versus an incomplete pack highlighting missing silicon percent, allowance, and runout.

If Si%, allowance, and runout are already in hand, upload the drawing now for an engineering screen—you do not need a perfect pack to start the conversation.

Volume, acceptance, failure mode, and reconditioning intent

Add annual/batch volume, holes per part, gauge method and acceptance limits, current scrap or drift mode, and whether you need regrind/retip and revision-controlled repeats.

These fields feed Cost per Good Part (acquisition, changes, scrap, reconditioning)—not a promised annual saving. They also decide spare-tool and sample-validation scope.

Structure trials with sample validation process. Distributor-facing programs: distributor cutting tool program. Broader route choice: precision holemaking selection guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum PCD reamer RFQ package?

Drawing with bore GD&T, material (Si% when aluminum), pre-hole/allowance, machine-holder-runout-coolant, acceptance method, volume, and current failure mode if known—then upload via the engineering RFQ.

Why do you ask for silicon content?

It affects abrasive wear discussion in aluminum castings and whether PCD finishing is even the right family. It is not a license to claim a fixed life multiplier.

Can XRZ quote from diameter alone?

Not reliably for custom PCD. Diameter without tolerance, material, pre-hole, and setup forces guesswork and weak Cost per Good Part comparisons.

Where do I send the pack?

Use Custom Cutting Tool RFQ (drawing upload) or the intake path on custom PCD reamers.

If the checklist above is mostly filled, upload the drawing and process notes for an engineering review—quotation quality tracks input quality, not slogan density.
