PCD Inserts for Nonferrous Turning

Review PCD turning insert geometry and provide the material, cut conditions, and holder details needed to assess your application.

  • Confirm PCD tip structure — not every diamond keyword is the same
  • Check holder pocket before locking a PCD option
  • Separate continuous vs interrupted duties

PCD insert structure

Use photos and structure views to show the PCD cutting portion and the substrate body. Not every “diamond insert” search maps to the same structure. General carbide selection stays on cutting inserts; custom PCD capability overview on PCD tooling.

  • PCD tip Cutting edge structure — confirm from series drawing.
  • Substrate / body Supports clamping and heat path; pocket must match.
  • Not ferrous hard turning Hardened ferrous finishing usually routes to CBN/PCBN review; send hardness data via RFQ (no separate specialty link on this page).

Nonferrous materials and application boundaries

Show suitability vs needs-review conditions. Workpiece grade and microstructure must be checked — do not claim suitability for all metals.

Shape, edge prep, and holder interface

List size, nose radius, edge prep, and clamping interface column by column. Keep supplier codes and internal IDs consistent when both exist.

Holder check first

RFQ reviews holder and space before locking a PCD option. Regrind/repair services appear only after supply confirmation.

Continuous vs interrupted cutting

Collect continuous and interrupted duties separately. Any published result must include material, machine, parameters, and measurement conditions — missing records are not filled with improvement percentages.

Drawing RFQ

Check holder and clearance first, then PCD options. For ISO shape decoding on carbide families, see turning insert selection.

PCD inserts FAQ

Are all “diamond inserts” PCD?

No. “Diamond insert” in search language can mean PCD, diamond-coated tools, or other structures. This page covers PCD turning inserts for nonferrous work. Confirm the cutting-edge structure from the series drawing — do not assume every diamond keyword is the same product.

How do you review interrupted cuts?

Send material, continuous vs interrupted duty, holder/interface, and any prior failure mode. Result claims on this site require material, machine, parameters, and measurement conditions — missing records are not filled with improvement percentages.

Can my existing holder take a PCD insert?

Only if pocket style, insert size/thickness, and clamping match. Send the holder designation or a clear photo with the insert seat visible. Check compatibility before ordering PCD edges.

Where do general carbide inserts live?

Carbide remains the primary insert hub on cutting inserts. This page is the specialty PCD turning route. Custom PCD tooling overview: PCD tooling.
